1. Passport & Visa Requirements
All riders must have a passport valid for at least six months past the trip dates.
U.S. and Canadian riders do not need a visa but must obtain an FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple).
Non-U.S./Canadian riders should check visa requirements for Mexico.
FMM Tourist Card is required for all foreign travelers staying longer than seven days.
Can be issued at the border or online in advance (still need to stop at the border and have it stamped)
Cost is approximately $30 USD.
Valid for 180 days
Port of Entry: Columbia Bridge or Piedras Negras (or Laredo)
📌 Getting the FMM online may save a little time at the border.
2. Motorcycle Permit (TVIP – Temporary Vehicle Import Permit) - you can only have 1 vehicle registered
Required for all foreign motorcycles traveling beyond the border zone.
Must be obtained at a Banjercito office near the border (usually at the same place as the FMM window) or online in advance.
Registration Process (will add proof of US insurance to this page)
Permit cost is approximately $50 USD and your credit card must be in the same name as your passport.
Deposit (refundable upon exit):
2007 & newer motorcycles: $400 USD.
2001–2006: $300 USD.
2000 & older: $200 USD.
📌 Important:
Refund is only given if the permit is canceled before leaving Mexico.
Cancelation booths are located at most land border crossings
Hours of operation vary.
Riding without a TVIP can result in fines, impoundment, or an entry ban.
Have all originals and copies
