Mezcal Moto Rally Info Session – March 31, 2025

1. Passport & Visa Requirements

  • All riders must have a passport valid for at least six months past the trip dates.

  • U.S. and Canadian riders do not need a visa but must obtain an FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple).

  • Non-U.S./Canadian riders should check visa requirements for Mexico.

  • FMM Tourist Card is required for all foreign travelers staying longer than seven days.

  • Can be issued at the border or online in advance (still need to stop at the border and have it stamped)

  • Cost is approximately $30 USD.

  • Valid for 180 days

  • Port of Entry: Columbia Bridge or Piedras Negras (or Laredo)

📌 Getting the FMM online may save a little time at the border.

2. Motorcycle Permit (TVIP – Temporary Vehicle Import Permit) - you can only have 1 vehicle registered

  • Required for all foreign motorcycles traveling beyond the border zone.

  • Must be obtained at a Banjercito office near the border (usually at the same place as the FMM window) or online in advance.

  • Registration Process (will add proof of US insurance to this page)

  • Permit cost is approximately $50 USD and your credit card must be in the same name as your passport.

  • Deposit (refundable upon exit):

    • 2007 & newer motorcycles: $400 USD.

    • 2001–2006: $300 USD.

    • 2000 & older: $200 USD.

📌 Important:

  • Refund is only given if the permit is canceled before leaving Mexico.

    • Cancelation booths are located at most land border crossings

    • Hours of operation vary.

  • Riding without a TVIP can result in fines, impoundment, or an entry ban.

  • Have all originals and copies

  • CANCEL YOUR TIP WITHIN 180 days with proof of you bringing back your vehicle into the US (ideally with the vehicle on you) at the BANJERCITO BOOTH

3. Restricted Items: What You Can & Can't Bring

📌 Keep items in original packaging to avoid customs issues.

4. Packing: Luggage Tips for the Rally

  • Keep your luggage weight balanced.

    • A heavy rear end can lead to front wheel instability.

  • Avoid overpacking

    • If you can get 160 miles of range, you probably don’t need to bring extra fuel.

    • Pack lightweight items, small first aid kits and minimal tools

  • Rear / top boxes should be reinforced.

  • Tank bags are useful for easy access to cash and documents.

  • Consider bringing an extra key.

5. Moto Gear: What to Wear & Safety Essentials

  • Mandatory gear:

    • DOT-approved helmet (mandatory in Mexico)

    • Boots, gloves and jacket.

  • Recommended extras:

    • Hydration pack for long rides.

    • Sunglasses or helmet visor for sun protection.

    • Earplugs to reduce wind noise on highways.

📌 Weather conditions vary—prepare for different climates.

6. Takeoff Location & Time

  • Departure location: Ranch Motel San Antonio (Thursday night night before KSU and racer kit handoff, if you’re not there, you’ll get the kit Friday morning)

  • Meet-up time Friday morning at Ranch Motel: 6AM (arrive early for final prep) - take off at 7AM.

  • Pre-departure process includes, tacos, coffee, bike inspections and rider briefing

📌 Fuel up before arriving at the takeoff location.

7. Lodging Expectations Along the Route

  • Remote areas
