Meet the Racers – Connect with adventurers gearing up for the Mezcal Moto Rally to Maruata, Michoacán, along with BBQ lovers and mezcal enthusiasts.
A Rare Mezcal Tasting: Felipe and Ageo Cortes are third- and fourth-generation mezcaleros from Miahuatlán, Oaxaca, a region famous for its diverse agave and deep mezcal traditions. Their mezcal is crafted using time-honored methods:
Underground roasting in a stone-lined earthen oven
Tahona milling with an ox-pulled stone wheel
Open-air fermentation with wild yeast
Wood-fired copper pot distillation using a Miahuatlán refrescadera, a technique enhancing complexity in a single pass
One of the featured mezcals is Ageo Cortes’ Arroqueño expression, made from wild Arroqueño agave, which takes 18 years to mature. This is a rare opportunity to taste a mezcal deeply rooted in tradition.
Special Thanks toAgave Road Trip for bringing this exceptional mezcal and to Austin Shaker for supporting this tasting experience.
